My phone’s USB-C connector was having problems holding on to cables for a long while, and today it finally stopped working altogether: the cable will pop out no matter what I do. I tried cleaning it with a sharpened tooth of plastic fork, but no joy. There is not much debris there either, it is mostly clean. The phone, Motorola Edge 2022 is 3 days shy of being 3 years old.
I got curious about the exact mechanism that holds the cable in place. It turns out that it is held by two hooks 1.25×0.25mm in size, probably made of plastic. No wonder it wears down after 3 years of use. Corresponding drawing is on page 42 (of course) of the USB-C specification.
