I absolutely detest the “what number/letter/picture comes next” type of puzzles. They are typically based on catching the pattern that the author had in mind when creating the puzzle. Well, guess what: ANY number/letter/picture may come next! They are all equally valid. The number of possible patterns is infinite. Some are “simpler” or “more logical” than others, but in real life the patterns are rarely simple or logical.

Making hypothesis based on limited input is an improtant trait, but guessing what hypothesis the authors had in mind is not.
